Sovereignty 101 cont…

Now, to understand exactly what type of government we were set up to have, one must examine what our founding fathers did.

Our founding fathers were representatives of their individual state republics, or colonies, and first stated on paper… “We the People, in order to form a more perfect Union...”. Let’s stop here for a minute. What is meant by… a more perfect Union? Well, what were they uniting? They were uniting their INDIVIDUAL republics. And, in uniting them together, they wanted to form a more perfect union.

Now, how were they  going to obtain a more perfect union?  By… establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty…. (these are all unalienable rights given to us by God; life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness!)….now for WHOM were they establishing, insuring, providing, promoting and securing all of this for? … to ourselves and our prosperity, …. WE THE PEOPLE.

So now, how were they going to accomplish all of this?  By… do ordain this Constitution for the United States of America. ….A constitution…. for the whole of the states they were uniting. In other words, this constitution was going to direct the government that was created by uniting the individual states/republics as to what they could and could not do. And to make EXTRA sure that the newly formed government knew that they had no more power than what was written down and that WE THE PEOPLE were the power, they added the 10th amendment…. The powers NOT delegated to the United States by the constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are RESERVED TO THE STATES RESPECTIVELY, OR TO THE PEOPLE.

Now, back to the beginning of this post. What type of government do we have? Well, let’s look at the definition of republic and democracy.

In a republic, the majority is limited and constrained by a written constitution which protects the rights of the individual and the minority. The purpose of a republic form of government is to control the majority and to protect the God-given, unalienable rights and liberty of the individual.

In a democracy, the majority has unlimited power over the minority. This system of government does not provide a legal safeguard of the rights of the individual and the minority. It has been referred to as “Majority over Man”.

WE were founded as a REPUBLIC by the existance of the constitution. And just in case there would ever be any further doubt as to whether WE ARE A REPUBLIC, they wrote it down INSIDE the constitution itself. Article IV, Section 4 states: The United States SHALL GUARANTEE (emphasis mine) to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government….

So my fellow Americans… we are NOT a democracy, we ARE A REPUBLIC. Why is this so important and what does it matter? Because, either WE ARE THE MASTERS and thus the rulers, with individual, sovereign unalienable rights which are respected and can NOT be taken away and where the government  heavily uses and abides by a constitution(a republic) , or we have tyranny and mobocracy, a government where the majority makes laws and governs by passion, prejudice, or impulse, without restraint or regard to consequences (democracy).

Think about this the next time you put your hand over your heart and recite The Pledge of Allegiance…

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

To be continued……
